Meeting 55, December 15, 2012

at Willagee at 2pm (UTC+8). . . . . final Dec 17, 2012

Toastmaster – David Nicholas

Inspiration – Michelle Goodwill

The meeting wasn’t held on our normal Thursday evening (7pm WST +8UTC).  Instead it was run on Saturday, 2pm WST +8UTC so that our newest member, Cristian Lefter, in Bucaresti, Rumania, could take part.

Speech 1 – Greg Lynn “You Need It

Specialty Speeches 3: Sell a Product (10-12 minutes)

Evaluation – Leonor Ragan (2-3 min)

Greg sold the Toastmasters Distinguished Toastmaster award.

An ACG for Netmasters

This completed Greg’s ACG which is coming to Netmasters. Thanks Greg.

Speech 2 – Christian Lefter “Using Social Media

Technical Presentations 5: Sell a Product (12-15 minutes)

Evaluation – David Nicholas (2-3 min)

Cristian certainly took part, though for him and for  Michelle in Gonubie, it was 8am in the morning – +2UTC.  It is an excellent speech which we recorded and have now posted on the Netmasters website.  It ran over the 15 minute timeslot, so we have had to split it into two parts to post onto YouTube which has a 15 minute limit.

An ACB for Netmasters

This completed Cristian’s ACB and he has asked me to post it for Netmasters.  That’s great Cristian.  We appreciate that.

Two more speeches

Michelle Goodwill came online from Gonubie.  She had crippling connection problems for the November meeting but this time it worked very well.  Michelle presented her CC4 speech – Smashing Boulders with my bare hands in 5-7 minutes.

Leonor evaluated Michelle’s speech in 2-3 mins.

Online from Perth Glenis Nicholas presented #5 from the Entertaining Speaker Manual – An After Dinner Speech in 8-10 min.  She warned a group of travel agents – Travel – a dangerous pastime!

Cristian evaluated Glenis’s speech in 2-3 min.

We had some technical hitches

Somehow I confused my MacAir and Thunderbolt screen with some inaccurate preferences.  I didn’t discover this until the meeting was underway and so we had to put up with a crippled audio from our end.  It involved using an external headphones set which only one person could use at a time.  There were 3 of us here – Greg, Glenis and me – so the other two missed out on the audio coming from the meeting location.  Fortunately we recorded the meeting, so the audio is recorded and I am making it available to those who missed.

3 members online

Besides Cristian and Michelle, Leonor Ragan was online from her eyrie in Kings Park.  She gave two excellent evaluations.

Two more Awards for Netmasters

That gives us 5 DCP Awards. Now we need 5 more members to become Distinguished. That is a target for 2013

Apologies – Cristian, Peter, Mike, Sandra, Saman, Mark, Gerry and Alan
