Signature Custom Homes

Signature Custom Homes

Recently we’ve worked with Dave Steadman of Signature Custom Homes to rebuild their website on WordPress.

The project was completed with Wayne Vinten and the team from Vinten Browning.

The website features an image rotator on the home page and an extensive range of beautiful images in the galleries. The site has an integrated blog that is being put to good use already.

It uses iPhone/iPad friendly flyout menus, and integrates with email marketing from Campaign Monitor.

Great new web directory from Smashing Magazine

Smashing Magazine is always a great read if you are interested in web design and development.

Today they’ve announced the Smashing Directory. It isn’t the first and won’t be the last directory for the industry, but I’m sure it will be one of the best.

We’ve signed up, the first of what I’m sure will be many Australian entries.

Bulk Editing for Campaign Monitor Custom Fields

Campaign Monitor is a great tool for email marketing, particularly when using the Custom Fields feature.

Collecting Custom Fields

Collecting Custom Fields

Custom fields can be used for all sorts of purposes, for example, you can create a Topics of Interest field to allow subscribers to nominate what interests them most.

Using your Campaign Monitor account you can create segments to send certain campaigns only to those subscribers who have a specific interest.

One of the features Campaign Monitor has implemented is the ability to export and re-import your subscriber lists complete with custom fields. So this means you can export a list, make any necessary changes to the custom fields in Excel, and then re-import to update the custom field values. A lot quicker than trying to update records one by one.

We have published a support article that steps you through how set up custom fields and export/re-import: Campaign Monitor Custom Fields

The value of a template based business website

A lot of businesses want a custom designed website to match their brand and structure their online presence in a very specific way.

And there are also a lot of businessses who want to get online rapidly, but don’t want to waste money on a one-off website that won’t grow with them. When customers are looking for this kind of outcome, we’ll often help them launch a simple WordPress website that uses a template – they use their own custom logo and colours, but essentially reuse a simple layout and focus their efforts on content rather than design.

This keeps costs down, but doesn’t stop them from adding a new design to their site later on. This approach is at the heart of our new Business Website in a Day workshop series.

Creative TeamsAbout a year ago I worked with James Gill (aka Fish) on his Creative Teams website. I asked Fish for his feedback on the value of launching a business website based on a ‘template’.

Glenn: Did launching a website using a template approach benefit your business? How?

Using a template allowed me to get a website up in no time at all with very little outlay and clarify my business offerings without a laborious and more costly design process. I landed (compulsory fish reference) a major global client with my first website enquiry, which led to a year-long consulting program and an ongoing relationship with them. If my website hadn’t been up, they would have been ‘the one that got away’ (oops, it’s a habit). Now, after a year of successful operation, I have time and money to undertake a web design process.

Glenn: Why would a business launch with a template compared to a full design process?

It’s ideal for people who just want to take the plunge (ok, I’ll stop it now!) and know that the first 12 months of running their business will be a time of working out exactly what you have to offer and how and to whom you’re going to offer it.

Glenn: How, specifically, does your website help your business operate?

It generates a lot of business via google ads. That’s currently my main online marketing strategy.

Online, bricks, clicks

From the small business section in The Age:

“Nicola Caras also sees the future of her business both online and in bricks and mortar.”

Once upon a time there was a debate about bricks and mortar businesses vs online businesses. In practice it is and always has been just about business.

This article provides several examples of why a blog is a great tool for a small business: Honest to blog, shops can net more customers online

Kakadu 4WD Tours

Kakadu 4WD Tours WebsiteA while back Genda Campbell used to work as a tour guide in the Kakadu region – he loved his job so much, he decided to buy the business.

Check out Genda’s new website: Kakadu 4WD Safaris.

Genda leads small group, four wheel drive adventures.  He likes to spend his time off the beaten track. Working with Web Noise and OM4 for design/web development, Genda arranged to have his website link directly to the V3/Front Desk online booking system.

Utilising an online booking system like V3/Front Desk and means a website is open for business, taking bookings and taking secure online payments 24 hours a day.

Keeping Websites Up to the Joneses

Keeping Up with the JonesesPerhaps you’ve met the Joneses in their television series, produced by independent TV production company WTFN.

Called Keeping Up With The Joneses, the series has been very successful and is being pitched internationally to be aired in a number of countries.

The Jones Group called on Web Noise to help launch their four new sites, with OM4 working on web design and web development:

The four sites share a common design framework, each with its own branding and service offers.

The Jones family and Australia’s Top End receive significant exposure with quality cinematography throughout the series. It is generating a great deal of online interest and exposure.

Tourism NT is also operating a tourism campaign, with activity centering around the three themes of the show; natural landscapes, colourful characters and outback adventure.

Coolibah Air, as the tourism arm of North Australian Helicopters, is the Jones Group focal point for awareness of the Territory as a destination, and as a funnel to take this wide ranging interest and turn it into bookings.
